Cuttlefishes are close molluscan cousins of the octopus and squid; together they are called cephalopods. Cuttlefishes have an internal calcium-based structure known as the cuttlebone which helps them control their buoyancy underwater. They have 8 arms and two shorter tentacles which they use to hunt. Cuttlefishes have incredible camouflaging abilities that help them ambush and hunt small fish and a variety of invertebrate prey (other molluscs, crustaceans, worms). They are important prey for larger marine carnivores including marine mammals and seabirds
